English Setters - General Description
English Setters are elegant gun dogs that possess great strength, stamina, and grace. English Setters have a unique speckled coat. The coat is long and wavy and comes in various colors: white with blue, orange, lemon, or brown speckling. There are also tri-color dogs. The head of an English Setter is in proportion to the body. The muzzle is long and square. The long neck is graceful and muscular. The chest is rather deep. The back is straight and strong. The legs are straight and parallel. The feet face forward. The tail is carried straight. The eyes are dark brown. The ears are set back and low. They are slightly rounded at the ends. The nose is black or dark brown. The teeth should meet in scissors bite.
Overall appearance suggests balance, stamina, beauty and style. English Setters are graceful and effortless in movement.

English Setters - Temperament
English Setters are friendly, affectionate, and good-natured dogs. Their sweet temperament has won them a good reputation in the world of dog fanciers. English Setters are intelligent and usually make great family companions. They are good with children. Standard English Setters should not be shy, vicious or timid. If the temperament is other than outgoing, mellow and amiable, it is not correct for the breed. English Setters make good watchdogs, sounding the alarm by barking when someone comes to the door.
