For a person seeking an English Setter, the choice may be quite difficult due to the fact that English Setters are not plentiful. Start by calling breeders until you find one who seems responsible. Then, you will have to get on a breeder's waiting list, which means you want to buy an English Setter puppy from the coming litter.
A reputable breeder will ask you a lot of questions about your self, your family, your household conditions and the exact reasons why you want the English Setter breed. If you are not prepared to answer many of these questions, you may have to consider another dog breed.
A true breeder will show you both parents of the puppies and other adult dogs in the breeding program. Thus, you will have an idea of the appearance and temperament of the puppies when they grow up. Health issues in the English Setter breed should be addressed. Make sure that the breeder has taken all the precautions in order to have a litter free of genetically inherited diseases.
