From time to time, English Setters need to be re-homed because their owners can no longer care for them. They are placed in temporary foster homes until a new permanent home is found for them.
If you are having trouble caring for or training your English Setter, contact your breeder or a breeder club. Sometimes, a person familiar with the breed is able to solve the problems that you experience. If the situation is critical and there is no way you can keep the dog, your first step should be to call your breeder and see if he can take the dog back or help you with re-homing. If you cannot contact the breeder, your option is to give up your dog to an animal shelter.
English Setters - Exercise Requirements
Regular exercises are essential for this active breed. Daily half-hour runs in safe and empty fields are advisable. Most people do not have an access to large fenced fields. Therefore, they drive their English Setters in some distant areas for runs. Jogging beside your bicycle, and hiking with you in the outdoors is what an English Setter would do with pleasure. Many English Setter owners claim that their dogs inspire them to get more exercise than they normally would. English Setters can adapt well to being in the house and are not hyperactive when they have had enough exercise outdoors.
